Downspout Drainage & Buried Extensions

Keep roof runoff from soaking the ground beside your foundation. A heavy-duty PVC connection feeds a buried solid pipe, laid on a continuous slope to a pop-up emitter in the yard.

We identify the problem, explain the repair, and give you a written price before we leave.

From the downspout to the outlet

Our own crew connects the downspout, buries the pipe and finishes the outlet. These photos show the work at different DMV homes.

Step 1 of 3Connect the downspoutWe fit a heavy-duty PVC connection at the downspout and join it to a separate, non-perforated line.
Solid roof-water pipe laid in an open trench leading away from a downspout
Step 2 of 3Lay the buried solid pipeWe check the route and elevations, then lay the pipe on a continuous slope toward the outlet. Solid pipe carries the water away without releasing it beside the foundation.

Step 3 of 3Release water away from the houseThe pop-up emitter opens under water flow to release roof runoff into the yard, away from the house. We check flow, backfill the trench and restore the disturbed surface.

What affects downspout drainage cost?

  • Connections: the number of downspouts and condition of existing buried lines.
  • Route: pipe length, available fall, utilities and access.
  • Outlet: discharge location and any additional drainage work.
  • Restoration: lawn, planting beds, paths or paving disturbed by the installation.

Questions about buried downspouts

Is a downspout drain the same as a French drain?

No. Solid pipe carries water from the gutter downspout to its outlet. A yard French drain or GradingShield™ drain beside the house uses perforated pipe to collect water along a gravel-filled trench. They may share an excavation corridor, but roof runoff stays in its separate solid line.

Where should the downspout water go?

Our typical installation discharges through a pop-up emitter in the yard. We choose a location away from the foundation where the pipe can fall continuously and released water can drain away. If the site cannot support that route, we discuss another outlet before starting.

Will a buried downspout fix a wet basement?

It can help when roof runoff is the source. It does not repair a leaking foundation wall or manage groundwater beneath the slab. We inspect the water path before recommending downspout work, exterior waterproofing or interior drainage.

How do I keep the line working?

Keep gutters clear, remove debris from accessible connections and outlets, and check flow after storms. Overflow at the downspout or a persistently wet spot along the buried route should be inspected. We show you the access and maintenance points at handover.
