Exterior waterproofing in Rockville, MD: This project focused on the foundation beside a brick fireplace. The documented work shows excavation, two waterproofing layers, XPS protection, backfill and final grading. It was a targeted repair around the fireplace, not a claim that the entire foundation was excavated.

Why open the ground beside the fireplace?
The crew excavated the limited wall area down to the footing so the exposed surface and wall-to-footing cold joint could be prepared. The scope included cleaning the wall, building up the cove at that joint and repairing exposed cracks or gaps. A polymer-modified cementitious coating formed the first waterproofing layer.

After the cementitious layer, the crew installed self-adhered modified bituminous sheet membrane and protection board before backfilling. The photographs show both coats in order. They do not identify a single proven path by which water entered the home.

How was the area restored?
Once the wall was protected with XPS board, the crew backfilled the excavation and restored the grade beside the fireplace.

The Jobber record marks this focused project closed, and the final photograph shows the exterior bed restored. The available record does not document a later storm test, so this case describes the completed installation and visible finish without claiming a measured dry-basement outcome.
